The Lambert Trophy: Recognizing Eastern Football Excellence

The Lambert Trophy Committee proudly upholds the tradition of honoring excellence in Eastern college football. The Lambert Trophy is awarded annually to the most accomplished football team in the Eastern United States, celebrating their achievements and competitive performance throughout the season.

Selection Criteria

The evaluation process is governed by Article III of the Lambert Trophy guidelines, emphasizing the recognition of the team with the most successful season. Selection is based on a set of primary criteria designed to identify the season’s most accomplished team:

  1. Intra-group Records: Matchups between Lambert Trophy-eligible teams will hold the greatest weight. Head-to-head results, in particular, will be pivotal in deciding the most deserving team.

  2. Championships Won: The importance of conference championships or other significant titles is paramount and will play a key role in the evaluation.

  3. Won-Loss Record: The team’s overall record throughout the regular season will be a fundamental measure of success.

  4. National Rankings: National rankings, such as the AP Poll and Coaches Poll, will provide additional context and reflect the national perception of a team’s accomplishments.

  5. Strength of Schedule: The difficulty of a team’s opponents will be taken into account, ensuring that teams facing tougher competition are fairly recognized.

Next Steps and Timeline

The Lambert Trophy Committee will reconvene next week to assess whether any postseason game meets the criteria to serve as the Lambert Trophy Championship Game. If such a game is identified, it will be designated as the determining event for the trophy.

In the event that no postseason game qualifies as a championship game, the Committee will proceed with a voting process to select the winner. This vote will take place during the week following the final game of the season played by a Lambert-eligible school. The winning team will be announced shortly thereafter.
