2021 and 2023 Lambert Trophy Voting
When re-establishing the Lambert Trophy's tradition, continuity was a top priority. The Lambert Trophy has been awarded annually since 1936, and it was essential to maintain that legacy. However, restarting the process after a hiatus required careful consideration of how to handle the years without formal votes.
To ensure a future for the Lambert Trophy, we focused on assembling a distinguished panel of voters. Their role is to evaluate and honor teams moving forward, without the burden of revisiting every detail of the past few years. Retroactive voting could lead to confusion, such as misremembering which team excelled in a specific year, or placing an undue research burden on our newly comprised panel.
Instead, we utilized a clause in the Lambert Trophy's constitution that allows for retroactive awards to be granted by proclamation by a subsection of the panel that can only be formed for this specific purpose. This approach ensured the accuracy of selections for 2021 and 2023 while keeping the full panel focused on current and future decisions.
As stewards of the Lambert Trophy during this transitional period, we reviewed these seasons thoroughly to make informed and credible decisions. Both Pittsburgh (2021) and Penn State (2023) were unanimously selected as champions, reflecting their excellence on the field during those years.
By addressing the past with care and setting a clear vision for the future, the Lambert Trophy continues its proud tradition of honoring the best in Eastern football.
